Robert Durst’s friend testifies his wife “mixed up” evidence about the accused murderer s whereabouts in 2000 Emily Altman’s backtrack on the stand was a blow to the prosecution’s case

A longtime friend of Robert Durst told a Los Angeles court that his wife was “all mixed up” when she provided evidence that put the real estate heir in Beverly Hills at the time of Susan Berman’s murder in 2000.

Stewart Altman, who went to high school with Durst and has acted as his attorney, testified Tuesday that his wife called him “hysterical” after she gave evidence in July, the New York Daily News reported. On the stand, Emily Altman initially said Durst had told her personally that he was in Beverly Hills at the time of Berman’s death. But after questioning from def上海龙凤论坛 新上海贵族宝贝论坛ense lawyers the next day, she changed her statement.

Sh上海贵族宝贝论坛 上海贵族宝贝e said after speaking to Stewart Altman on the phone she thought it had actually been her husband that had told her that Durst was traveling. She added that he had maybe only said California, and not specifically LA.

She was all upset, all mixed up about her testimony, Ste上海夜网论坛 上海夜网wart Altman, testified Tuesday, according to the newspaper. I said to her, It couldn t have happened like that,’ he testified, in reference to the phone call with his wife. I said, You didn t hear it at all from anybody. Not in December 2000. We had no idea where Bob was or what he was doing.’

Altman admitt爱上海 爱上海同城手机版ed it was “inadvisable” to speak with his wife while she giving evidence, the LA Times reported.

Prosecutors claim Durst killed Berman 17 years ago to stop her from helping police investigate the disappearance of Durst’s wife Kathleen.

He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for weapons offences and due to face trial for Berman’s murder. Kathleen, who was officially declared dead by a judge earlier this year,  has not been seen since she went missing in 1982. While Durst has never been charged in connection to her disappearance and presumed death, he is still the only suspect in the case. In 2015, HBO docu爱上海 爱上海同城手机版-drama “the Jinx” showed Robert muttering what appeared to be a murder confession, though he later said he was under the influence of methamphetamine. [NYDN] Miriam Hall

Walker Tower

The CEO of Kayak is listing his Walker Tower PH a year after buying it for $24M The 5,000 sf duplex is one the building’s priciest pads

Steven Hafner and Walker Tower 18A

It s been just over a year since Kayak.com CEO Steven Hafner scooped up a $24 million duplex at Walker Tower but it appears he s ready to part ways with the pad.

Hafner, who bought the 18th-floor condominium from Property Markets Group pri上海千花社区 上海千花网交友ncipal Elliot新上海贵族宝贝论坛 上海贵族宝贝交流区t Joseph in August 2016, has listed the 5,000-square-foot unit for $28 million, Curbed reports. Though he s seeking a $4 million flip, not much has changed about the penthouse, which is being marketed by Corcoran Group s Vickey Barron.

Walker Tower 18A

Its $28 million price tag makes it one of the most expensive units on the market at Walker Tower. The building s Penthouse 1, which is ensnared in the 1MDB scandal and is up for grabs for $45 million, currently has the highest asking price. It sold for $50.9 million in 2014, making it the most expensive penthouse ever to trade hands in Downtown Manhattan.

It could be that Hafner is spending more time in Miami Beach, where he scooped up a 7,945-square-foot penthouse at the L Atelier Residences for $21 million late last month. [Curbed] Kerry Barger

Xceligent employee files class-action lawsuit against DMGT Field researcher claims data firm violated WARN Act

Paul Zwillenberg (Credit: DGMT)

UPDATED, 7:10 p.m., Dec. 22: A former Xceligent employee filed a class-action lawsuit against the data company and its British parent, the Daily Mail and General Trust, over its abrupt closure and mass layoffs last week.

Last Thursday, workers were informed Xceligent is filing for Chapter 7 liquidation and that they were “爱上海同城对对碰 爱上海同城论坛separated from employment effective immediately.” The company gave its employees 30 minutes to collect belongings and leave the building.

The lawsuit, filed by Missouri-based former Xceligent field researcher Jean Morris on behalf of around 500 employees in Delaware federal bankruptcy court, alleges that DMGT violated the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act by not giving them at least 60 days notice that they would lose their jobs. The suit seeks up to 60 days’ pay and re爱上海同城对对碰 爱上海同城论坛tirement and health benefits.

DMGT did not shut爱上海同城论坛 爱上海同城 down Xceligent, a spokesperson for DMGT said Friday. The Xceligent board decided to file for Chapter 7. The allegation relating to WARN is therefore against Xceligent.

DMGT, which owns the tabloid Daily Mail, had bemoaned Xceligent’s “disappointing” expansion into New York City and had written the carrying value of Xceligent down to zero in November. Xcel阿拉爱上海同城 爱上海龙凤419桑拿igent folded amid a costly legal battle with CoStar Group, which claims the rival data company stole its images.

CoStar intends to continue the litigation, and its legal filings indicate that it will now turn its attention to DMGT. “While the bankruptcy has stayed the case against Xceligent, CoStar will continue legal efforts to hold accountable those involved in the theft of its intellectual property,” a CoStar spokesperson said last week.

This story was updated to include a comment from DMGT.

Malaysia bans foreign buyers at $100B Chinese-backed development Country is the latest 爱上海同城论坛 爱上海同城to crack down on foreigners amid global affordability crisis

Malaysia is banning foreign buyers from purchasing homes in a new $100 billion development, the latest in a string of real estate clampdowns across the globe.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Monday said foreigners would be blocked from buying homes at Forest City a huge residential complex being built by Chinese developer Country Garden Holdings Co. on a group of artificial islands in the city of Johor, Bloomberg News reported.

Mahathir also said foreigners would not be granted visas to live there.

The project has targeted buyers from mainland China, and Mahathir who rose to power by tapping into nationalist rhetoric has 上海夜网论坛 上海夜网called foreign investments that don t benefit Malaysians “a new version of colonialism.”

Across the gl阿拉爱上海同城 爱上海龙凤419桑拿obe, countries are putting protectionist measures in place, as low interest rates have made home buying unattainable for many.

“The tension around foreign investment is always going to be much more acute when affordability is getting worse,” Brendan Coates, a researcher at the Grattan Institute think tank in Melbourne, told Bloomberg.

He noted that even when foreign buyers have little impact on housing prices, a爱上海 爱上海同城手机版s they do now on a global basis, they may still be blamed by locals priced out of the market.

It turns out Amazon won t be bringing 25,000 tech jobs to its new headquarters in Long Island City after all.

Only half of the new jobs — 12,500 — will be tech-related, the Wall Street Journal reported. City officials said on Tuesday that the other half of the jobs will be administrative, HR, custodial and other roles.

“The tech industry has a full spectrum, and this HQ would include everyone from the C-suite to administrative to custodial to coders and the like,” said Nate Bliss, the senior vice pres新上海贵族宝贝论坛 上海贵族宝贝交流区iden爱上海同城论坛 爱上海同城t for development at the city s Economic Development Corp.

Last week, Amazon announced that it will open two new headquarters in Long Island City and Crystal City in Virginia. In exchange for $3 billion in city and sta上海千花网论坛 上海千花网te tax incentives and grants, Amazon guaranteed the creation of at least 25,000 jobs. At the time of the announcement, Amazon noted that the average salary of the workers would be $150,000, but the company didn t provide details on the nature of the jobs.

Virginia officials also said they expect the same jobs breakdown for Crystal City, according to the Journal. [WSJ] Kathryn Brenzel

What s behind the projected slowdown in China s property market A government program that subsidizes home purchases has allocated funds for 4.6M purchases this year, down 20% from 2018

(Credit: iStock)

In 2015, government authorities in China respond爱上海同城 爱上海ed to a big drop in the Chinese stock market and other issues by reducing interest rates and lifting limits on home purchases, which boosted both property investment and the national economy.

But now, Beijing is resisting an expansion of a public program that has provided cash sub上海龙凤论坛 新上海贵族宝贝论坛sidies to help rural residents buy apartments in dozens of Chinese cities. Government officials are now wary of stimulating housing investment because it would add unwanted debt to China’s financial system.

Other factors holding down property values include a decline in the number of Chinese citizens moving from rural villages to cities, shrinking the market for newly built properties. In addition, fewer young families are looking for better homes as the Chinese population ages.

That said, the overall Chinese property market remains robust in many parts of the country. Home prices nationwide rose 10.6 percent in December from the level of December 2017. In the biggest Chinese cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, home sales probably will remain strong due to their employment growth, so long as China can avoid a major economic recession.

But according to some economists, home sales in big Chinese cities are surging temporarily because developers have priced them aggressively due to expectations of a worse housing market next year.

Economists also say the outlook for property sales is declining in smaller Chinese cities as their population grows slowly or shrinks.

According to research by S P Global Ratings, smaller cities accounted for almost two-thirds of all property sales throughout China last year, up from half of property sales in 2016.

Much of the credit for that trend went to the cash subsidy program to help rural residents buy units in new apartment buildings. Under the terms of the program, smaller cities borrowed from state banks to demolish blighted housing and to grant money to residents to purchase newer homes. But how those debts will be repaid is unclear, economists say.

This year, the program has a阿拉爱上海同城 爱上海龙凤419桑拿llocated subsidies for 4.6 million home purchases, down more than 20 percent from the number in 2018. [Wall Street Journal] – Mike Seemuth

Queens Homeless Shelter

Critics sue to block College Point homeless shelter The project is part of the city’s plan to build more shelters across the five boroughs

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Commissioner Steven Banks and 127-03 20th Avenue (Credit: Getty Images and Google Maps)

UPDATE: May 15, 2019, 10:15 a.m.: A group of residents in College Point, Queens, is trying to stop the city from opening a homeless shelter in their neighborhood.

The 20 locals want a judge to put a halt to City Hall’s plan to convert an industrial building at 127-03 20th Avenue into a homeless shelter. They argue that the city did not undertake any environmental or fair-share reviews for the site, according to the petitio阿拉爱上海同城 爱上海龙凤419桑拿n filed Tuesday in New York County Supreme Court. The residents say the shelter will further strain open space, educational, sewer, water, police and other resources and will alter the character of the neighborhood.

The shelter is part of the city s Turning the Tide on Homelessness in New York City to curb homelessness throughout the five boroughs by replacing existing cluster and hotel housing for homeless individuals with new shelters. The residents filing also alleges that this plan was never subjected to an environmental review.

They can t just look shelter by shelter for their environmental review but they have to look at the total cumulative impact of the plan, the residents attorney, E. Christopher Murray of the law firm Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, told The Real Deal.

Mayor Bill de Blasio s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

“Every community has a role to play in addressing this citywide challenge and we’re committed to open engagement across the five boroughs as we transform our shelter system decades in the making, said Arianna Fishman, spokes上海千花网龙凤论坛 上海千花社区person for the Department of Homeless Services. We will review the lawsuit if and when we receive it.”

Liberty One Group, headed by David Levitan, filed plans for the conversion of the four-story building a year ago. Westchester-based non-profit Westhab will operate the shelter, which is slated to open in September and house 200 single homeless men.

Brooklyn-based Liberty One is among the top private homeless shelter owners in the Big Apple, a TRD analysis found. Liberty One, which also did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment, acquired the 20th Avenue building in 2018 for $12 million, property records show.

Construction of the new shelter is already underway, the petition states. But during various public meetings, there was never any sense that the shelter s opening depended on anything. Rather, the city made clear that the development instead was proceeding as quickly as possible, according to the filing.

At a meeting in December, residents raised a slew of concerns from security to the fact that 3,000 students attend school close to上海贵族宝贝论坛 上海贵族宝贝 the shelter, the Queens Chronicle reported.

Jackie Bray,上海千花网龙凤论坛 上海千花社区 first deputy commissioner of the DHS, said during that meeting that the neighborh[……]
